About the Book:
On the first day of May, 100 teenage boys meet for an event known throughout the country as The Long Walk. If you break the rules, you get three warnings. If you exceed your limit, what happens is absolutely terrifying.
I have just finished The Long Walk, a friend recommended this book to me. Now me and my friend normally have very similar tastes in the books we read, but with this story we didn’t. This is in fact a very old story, it was written back in 1979 and Stephen King actually wrote this under the pseudonym Stephen Bachman.
This story is about 100 teenage boys in a race to win the long walk. The winner is the last one standing at the end. I can imagine it was this story that gave inspiration to Suzanne Collins for the Hunger Games. It seems its one of the very first of this type of genre.
It is very well written due to being written by Stephen King! Unfortunately this just wasn’t for me, it took me ages to read it as I just couldn’t get into it. Certain parts gripped me, but then I would get bored with it again. I found it very slow and it wasn’t really until the very end that you found out why they were even in the walk. I just didn’t click with this one.
If anyone is looking to read this, or have read it before and would like to read it again it is available to download on Amazon. I don’t believe it is available in published copy any longer so it seems Amazon is you only option with this one.
